Architectural Birdhouse
Newtown’s first meeting house was built in 1720 on Main Street, where the flagpole stands today. The meeting house was replaced with a new one in 1812, which was improved over the years
By 1873, the meeting house looked much as it does today. In 1988, the Newtown Congregational Churchmoved to a new building and sold the old meeting house to the town. The Heritage Preservation Trust of Newtown, Inc. then restored and now maintains the Meeting House, which serves as a place for concerts, meetings, weddings and other events.
This wonderful historic building is new to my collection of churches. These architectural garden pieces are meant to weather gracefully to belong in the landscape. Over time they look like they have always been there much like the historic building they represent.
Dimensions:
Width (side to side) 20"
Depth (front to back) 25"

Newtown CT Meeting House c 1812
This birdhouse is handcrafted of pine and rot resistant cedar. The colors reflect a historical pallette of exterior homes. The paint on the exterior is a latex acrylic. Each birdhouse is then antiqued using another latex glazing product. Finally, each birdhouse is sealed with several coats of high quality acrylic designed for years of outdoor use. No paint on the inside for the birds.
For maintenance and clean out, each birdhouse has a removable base or roof depending on the design.
